Access to Benefits- Form Filling Volunteer
All volunteers must be aged 18 and over to work within this role and must be able to travel independently to service users homes and one or more of our offices. Volunteers using their own vehicle must evidence their insurance covers volunteering activity.
Purpose of this role:
To support service users to complete forms including Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment and Carer’s Allowance as part of Age Concern Central Lancashire’s Access to Benefits service (A2B).
Time commitment :
Variable but will typically consist of a 2 to 3 hour visit, weekly Monday – Friday (between 9.30am and 4.30pm), either in the morning or afternoon. This will exclude lunch periods.
Service users own home around Preston, South Ribble or Chorley
This position will report to:
Nominated key worker and in their absence Head of Live Well
Necessary personal qualities:
- Good communication and listening skills,
- both written and verbal.
- Clear, legible handwriting.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex information.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Empathy with older people.
The duties/ activities’ for this role will include:
You will be trained to assist service users to complete forms, including
- Attendance Allowance,
- Disability Living Allowance,
- Personal Independence Payment,
- Carers Allowance.
You will also signpost to other Age Concern Central Lancashire services and external services when appropriate. You will manage your own caseload and will need to be able to come into the office at either Arkwright House, Lostock Hall Friendship Club or Leyland Shop to pick up and return any paperwork. The role may occasionally involve planned drop in sessions and promotional work.
Training required for this role:
